Wondereur Walter Segers
Walter Segers is often surrounded by Ken dolls. In fact, a significant part of his recent work deals with these figures, plastic emblems of “masculinity.” Walter creates elaborate settings and whimsical situations for these figures (sometimes basing the scenarios on his own life experiences), and photographs them. Fantasy, queer identity, personal history, and societal conventions are all important factors in this artist’s work. Walter Segers’ photographs are anything but plastic!
Artists Protest Projects
As much of Canada attempts to make sense of our current political quagmire north and south of the border, contemporary visual artists are speaking out through their work to address recent legislation/decisions that are impacting our democracy and environment.
Whether it be regressive policies of the Ford Government, such as repealing SEX ED, scrapping the carbon tax and renewable energy programs or depriving basic democratic rights, the message is clear: Current political forces are NOT “FOR the PEOPLE” and are completely out of touch with crucial issues that are facing our province, our country and our planet.
An image is worth thousands of words. Welcome to the Artists Protest Project site where artists’ images are displayed with events/protests that have occurred and upcoming projects. Please join us online or in person at a protest event near you.
